5th Annual Hands On Athens Another Great Success!! Hands On Athens 2004 brought in well over 300 volunteers for another successful weekend of painting, patching and planting! The eleven historic homes in the Hancock and East Athens communities chosen as recipients got facelifts including work like painting and replacing boards to new porch roofs. Many thanks to Steering Committee Partners: ACC Human and Economic Development, Athens Area Habitat for Humanity, Athens Land Trust, East Athens Development Corporation, Georgia PAS Corps/Americorps, Hancock Community Development Corporation, jb|rs architecture, Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful, Kiwanis Club of Athens, UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government, UGA College of Environment and Design, UGA Office of University Architects, UGA Student Historic Preservation Organization. In addition to serving on the Steering Committee throughout the year and playing vital roles in making HOA happen, a number of these groups also took on a house for the weekend and provided the majority of volunteers needed! So, if you know anyone in these groups, please praise and thank them. I also want to express a special thanks to house captains (listed below) who did an incredible job making sure everything got done.
